| Chiamate anche le Perle dell'Egeo, devono il nome, forse, a Kuklos (giro) poichè le oltre 50 isole formano un cerchio attorno a Delos, isola sacra.
Sono isole ventose e di forte contrasto: terra e mare hanno colori vivaci, e contrastano il bianco delle case squadrate con pergole e dei mulini a vento. Grande varietà geologica, di paesaggi unici e caratterizzati, di bellezze naturali e di organizzazione turistica tra le varie isole: dalla frenetica vita notturna di Mikonos, alla pace di Folegandros e Anafi, alla spettacolarità e mondanità di Santorini, alle spiaggie di Milos.
Per visitare più di una isola è necessario effettuare un programma basato sulle linee di traghetti, poichè il Pireo rappresenta un punto centrale con linee che dipartono tra gruppi di isole. Viaggi incrociati tra le linee sono a di poco defatiganti. Idem per i viaggi aerei, tutti centrati su Atene.
La linea occidentale di traghetti parte dal Pireo e tocca Kea, Kithnos, Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, Kimolos, Folegandros, Santorini.
L'altra orientale è Pireo, Siros, Mikonos, Paros/Naxos, Ios, Santorini.
Popolazione circa 100.000 abitanti. Capitale Amministrativa: Siros.
Il Meltemi è il vento proveniente da Nord che rinfresca le isole Cicladi durante il giorno nei mesi da metà giugno a metà settembre e può raggiungere i 9 Beaufort.

On account of their beauty they are called The Pearls of the Aegean Sea;, and most probably owe their name to Kuklos (round) as they are scattered around the Island of Dilos, the Sacred Island.
The Cyclades are windy and their beauty is due to their geological, mostly volcanic, origin. Wild, reddish land contrasts with the deep blue and green colors of the sea, with the white of houses and mills, with the blue of pergolas, and with intense pastel colors of fixtures and flowers.
Each island has own characteristics, from nature to life, from the nightlife of Mikonos to the peaceful atmosphere of Folegandros and Anafi, to the spectacular caldera of Santorini.
To visit more than one island we suggest to follow the ferry lines departing from Piraeus: the Western one touching Kea, Kithnos, Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, Kimolos, Folegandros, Santorini; the eastern one going to Siros, Mikonos, Paros/Naxos, Ios, Santorini.
The population of the Cyclades is about 100.000 inhabitants and their administrative capital is Siros.
The Meltemi wind blows from the North from mid-June to mid-September and can reach 9 Beaufort. Almost stops at night. |
